The Laurel Distribution Center is responsible for the distribution and storage functions of U.S. Government publications. The distribution function consists of the processing of customer mail orders and subscription and agency runs. The storage function entails the warehousing of over 4,700,000 copies of 9,000 titles. The two buildings of the Center occupy over 300,000 square feet of space and employ over 100 employees.

The publications may be purchased by calling or writing to the Superintendent of Documents or may be purchased at the Government Bookstore located at the Laurel Distribution Center. Ordering from the Bookstore is convenient. It is located just off of U.S. 1 and only minutes from I-95 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. Customers have a wide range of payment options, including Visa, MasterCard and Discover credit cards, GPO deposit accounts, checks, and U.S. currency.

In addition to making government publications available for sale to the public, the Laurel Distribution Center also offers these same services to other government agencies through our Reimbursable Services. Under this program, agencies can take advantage of cost-effective mailing services from the Government Printing Office's Superintendent of Documents. The program offers mail list management, bulk publication storage, product shipping, order fulfillment and more available on a reimbursable basis. Agencies costs are low, there is no need to apply for mailing permits or to deposit funds with the U.S. Postal Service when using the GPO's permit, mailing jobs are done to agency specifications, and invoices list labor and postage costs separately giving a clear picture of actual postage charges.
