The Postal Serviceā¢ delivered its Transformation Plan to Congress and the American people in April 2002. Since that time, the organization has made considerable progress in meeting the goals that were laid out in the plan. In fact, progress against the plan may be viewed at the Transformation Plan Progress Report published in November 2003, and at the Postal Service's Delivering Results Star.
As background, in 2002 the Transformation Plan was developed to address both the near-term and long-term changes the Postal Service would need in order to continue to deliver business and personal mail throughout the Nation at affordable rates. Today, postal transformation is well under way.
Working within its current legislative framework, the Postal Service improved operational efficiency and enhanced its performance-based culture. It has boosted service and customer satisfaction scores to their highest levels ever while reducing its employee complement through attrition. It has used technology to enhance the value of the mail through innovative products such as Confirm® and Click-N-Ship®. It has expanded access to USPS® products and services through alternate locations and channels, including 60,000 supermarkets, drug stores, and ATMs.
The Transformation Plan, a blueprint for the future of the Postal Service, is a work in progress. The Postal Service has accomplished a lot since it issued the Plan, but there is more to be done. Postal Service leadership is committed to the continued transformation of the Postal Service.
