Q: If the orders do not clearly identify the borrower's military effort, how can we identify the effort?
A: Sometimes the orders reference a military "operation" but not the approved "effort". The Web IIS application requires that you specify the military effort. Military efforts currently approved by Ginnie Mae include those in Bosnia, Kosovo, Southwest Asia, Enduring Freedom, and "All Other Efforts" for September 11, 2001 or later. Click here for a list of updated operations and efforts. If the operation is not listed or you have additional questions, call the Ginnie Mae Hotline at (888) GINNIE4, option 4, for assistance.
Q: I have electronically transmitted my eligibility request. Why does Ginnie Mae require the hard copy as well?
A: The electronic file is uploaded to Ginnie Mae's system for processing and the hard copy is needed for comparison to the orders. Also, the original signature on the hard copy is your certification that the borrower is entitled to benefits under the SSCRA, and that the information you are submitting is correct.
Q: How and when will I know if my eligibility request has been approved?
A: Once your request has been processed, you will receive a letter along with a copy of each approved request.
Q: How will I know if my eligibility request has been denied?
A: If a request is denied, the original package will be returned with an explanation attached. Eligibility requests are generally denied because the package contained inaccurate or incomplete information. You can significantly reduce the chance of a denial by completing the SSCRA Checklist for each loan. Please call the Ginnie Mae Hotline at (888) GINNIE4, option 4 if you have additional questions.
Q: When can I send my reimbursement request?
A: Once a request has been approved, Issuers may submit requests for reimbursement on a quarterly basis only. Requests are to be submitted by August 10, November 10, February 10, and May 10, which are the months following the months of the quarterly loan level cycle.
Q: Should I change the borrower's interest rate to 6 percent?
A: No. Under SSCRA, Ginnie Mae reimburses lenders the difference between 6 percent and the loan rate.
