Employer ID Numbers (EIN) - How to Apply
Apply Online
This Internet EIN (I-EIN) application opens another avenue for customers to apply for and obtain
an employer identification number. Once you have completed all necessary fields on the online form,
preliminary validation is performed and will alert you to information IRS needs that you may not
have included. An EIN will be issued after the successful submission of the completed Form SS-4
online. Please note that not all business entity types may use this method.
Apply by Mail or Telephone (Tele-TIN)
Use
Form SS-4 (PDF)
to apply for an EIN either by mail or by telephone. You can get an EIN
within minutes by calling the Tele-TIN phone number for your state, or you can send the
completed Form SS-4 to your local IRS service center to get your EIN by mail. You need a
completed Form SS-4 to apply for an EIN by either method.
Apply Through Your State Office
A number of states participate in the Fedstate Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN)
