Obtaining NSF and DUE Publications

Accessing Publications via the World Wide Web

NSF's Online Document System includes all publications and forms available in electronic formats. You can search by document type, by NSF document number, or by keyword.

Receiving Publications via E-mail

People without Web access may still receive many NSF publications electronically, via e-mail, from NSF's automated mailserver, getpub@nsf.gov ("GetPub"). For a list of all documents available from GetPub, including file formats and sizes, send an e-mail to getpub@nsf.gov with the words "get index" in the body of the message. To retrieve a list of all GetPub commands and usage tips, send an e-mail to getpub@nsf.gov with the word "help" in the body of the message.

Requesting Paper Copies of Publications

Many NSF publications are published only in electronic format on the Web. If you would like to order copies of paper publications, please request them in one of the ways listed below. If you are not sure of the NSF document number or title that you need, browse the list of documents available through NSF's Online Document System.

  • On the Web: Fill out NSF's web-based order form.

  • By e-mail: Send an e-mail to info@nsf.gov. For DUE publications, you may also e-mail your request to the division at undergrad@nsf.gov.

  • By phone: Call the NSF Publications Clearinghouse at (301) 947-2722. For DUE publications, you may also call the division at (703) 292-8670.

  • By mail: Send your request and the NSF document number to:

    NSF Publications Clearinghouse
    P.O. Box 218
    Jessup, MD 20794-0218

For DUE publications, you may also write:

    Division of Undergraduate Education
    National Science Foundation
    4201 Wilson Blvd., Suite 835
    Arlington, VA 22230
Note that publications are usually sent via Fourth Class Mail, and will take three to four weeks to arrive.
