TEAS works best if you use either NETSCAPE NAVIGATOR (Version 4.06 New! or most recent) or MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER (Version 4.0 or most recent). TEAS utilizes frames, JavaScript, and the file upload feature supported by these browser versions. Note: Internet Explorer on the Macintosh platform will not permit a proper image attachment. Images created on a Macintosh using Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator must be properly saved with appended file extensions .jpg for use on a Windows system. We cannot open image files that are not properly saved prior to attachment. Also, Internet Explorer that sits behind a Microsoft Proxy Server will NOT connect properly. However, if you upgrade Internet Explorer to 5.01 or higher the site will work properly.

In order to use the USPTO payment server, you must use a Web browser that both supports Secure Socket Layers (SSL) protocol with 128-bit encryption software (strong encryption), and has JavaScript enabled.  We recommend that you use a browser listed below that works best with your operating system.  If you determine that your current browser version will NOT allow you to make payment, you should back up and save your work as a Portable Form from the validation page.  You can then return to the site after upgrading your browser and finish the form, without having to recreate it.

To determine if your version of Netscape (4.06 or higher) supports SSL protocol with 128-bit encryption, check the following:

To determine if your version of Microsoft Internet Explorer (4.0, 5.0 or 5.5) supports SSL protocol with 128-bit encryption, click the HELP option and choose About Internet Explorer. If the Cipher strength reads 128-bit encryption, then you should be able to access TEAS payment server.  If the Cipher strength reads 40-bit encryption, that means you will need to update to the 128-bit U.S. strong encryption.

You must also verify one other security setting for Netscape, namely, ensuring that JavaScript is turned on.  To verify JavaScript is enable, click on Edit, choosing Network Preferences, and selecting the tab labeled Advanced.  There, confirm that the box labeled Enable JavaScript is checked; if not checked, do so at this time.

The following 128-bit browsers are supported by the USPTO payment server:
