The committee, first chartered in 1975, provides advice to the Secretary of the Interior on implementing the OCS Lands Act.  Members are appointed by the Secretary of the Interior.

The OCS Policy Committee appoints subcommittees to look at issues in-depth.  The subcommittees report back to the full committee.  If their report is acceptable to the full committee, the report is sent to the Secretary.  In addition, the OCS Policy Committee frequently provides advice to the Secretary through resolutions.
