MRM Information

Much of what there is to know about the MRM is located on the numerous blue topic buttons on the left. We are working to provide you with easy access to as much information as possible.

By browsing through our electronic pages, you can learn of the MMS, its functions, operations, history and more.

One can learn how much money is derived annually from minerals production on federal onshore and offshore lands–and, how much is shared with states.

In MMS’s Laws & Regulations and Statistics, are facts, figures and technical papers for those with such needs. We also provide news releases, Congressional testimony, regulations, Federal Register notices, proposed and final rules, comments on proposed regulations and more.  Try "Who We Are" to start or click one of the topic buttons on the left.

You can also "electronically visit" each of the three offshore regions to learn of MMS’s involvement in offshore leasing, environmental and scientific activities. There are even special attractions for young students.

And, like other websites, we are linked to some of our important affiliates, including the Library of Congress, one of the world's greatest informational sources.

Access is free and we won’t rush you as you look into our files. Look around, see what you can find. The hardest part is over– you’re already in our informational neighborhood on the Internet.

Gathering information about us on the Internet is not unlike visiting your local library. You are free to go directly to areas that interest you. Browse as you wish, at your own pace, there are no closing hours. If you need help finding what you want, ask for assistance. You don’t have to whisper. And, if the information is not available, you can make a special request.

May We Help You? -- Could not find what you were looking for? Need additional help? Want to speak to a live person? Contact our Public Affairs Officer for additional service.

Patrick Etchart can be reached weekdays in Lakewood, Colorado, at (303)231-3162, or by E-mail at Patrick Etchart@mms.gov.

While much public information is already available on the Internet, the MMS is working to provide even more and make greater use of this electronic medium.

The Next Level of Service -- While the vast majority of information held by the federal government is available to the public, a small, but certain portion remains sensibly protected from disclosure.

If the information you seek is not already available, and has been deemed to be other than public information, you may still seek it, but more formally, under provisions of the Freedom of Information Act.

Most information maintained by the MMS is publicly available and a FOIA request may not
be necessary. If you have questions about the need for a formal FOIA request, please contact either the Public Affairs Officer or MRM’s FOIA Officer, Diana Ostenson at (303)231-3719. She may also be reached by E-mail; Diana Ostenson or by paper fax at (303)231-3781.

For additional information about submitting a request under provisions of the Freedom of Information Act see the MMS FOIA site at www.mms.gov/adm/foia.html.
