- Four breakout groups to discuss unresolved questions and ways of answering these questions.
- What do we know and what do we not know about the impact of pregnancy on breast cancer risk?
-
- From human population studies, and which pregnancy-related factors are established breast cancer risk factors, which have been suggested by data but need further pursuit and exploration
- From laboratory investigations, and which potential underlying mechanisms to explain pregnancy-related risk factors are most promising, which need further pursuit and exploration
- Which epidemiologic findings should be pursued in laboratory studies, and which laboratory findings should be pursued in epidemiologic investigations
- Are there specific interdisciplinary studies (incorporation of a laboratory component in an epidemiologic research design) which could substantially advance our knowledge and are feasible at this time
- Are there specific high-priority interdisciplinary studies that are not feasible at this time, and what would it take to establish their feasibility
- What is needed to implement the studies identified to fill the research gaps?
-
- Methodologic issues (both epidemiologic and laboratory) that need to be addressed
- Identification of uniquely informative populations for study
- Identification of important new technologies that should be utilized, refined further before utilization, or require development
- Development of epidemiologic and laboratory infrastructures, including consortia, that would enhance and facilitate interdisciplinary studies
