American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Oct. 11, 2004 - Two Task Force Baghdad soldiers were killed and five were wounded when rockets impacted in southern Baghdad, Iraq, about 8 a.m. today, according to a Multinational Force Iraq news release.

Later this morning, a soldier assigned to Task Force Olympia died following a vehicle-bomb attack on a Multinational Force convoy in the southwestern area of Mosul, according to another MNF-I release.

Immediately following the explosion, the convoy was engaged with small-arms fire from a mosque in the vicinity of the attack. Iraqi National Guard soldiers searched the mosque and surrounding area but did not locate the gunmen.

Nine Multinational Force soldiers were wounded. Six have been returned to duty, and three are being treated at military hospitals, officials said. The names of the soldiers killed are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
