Created under the McKinney Act, The PATH Program, is a formula grant program that funds the 50 States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and four U.S. Territories to support service delivery to individuals with serious mental illnesses, as well as individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders, who are homeless or at risk of becoming home-less. Policy Research Associates, Inc., and its subcontractor Advocates for Human Potential, Inc., provide technical assistance to states and local providers funded by the PATH program. This includes on-site consultation, collection of annual reporting data, the development of an annual report to Congress, holding bi-annual meetings of PATH contacts, and identifying and disseminating best practices from the program. This site contains useful resources generated by the PATH program.

In the first of two calls the presenters discussed the relationship between abuse and homelessness; the wide-ranging impact of interpersonal violence on men's lives; and ways to use knowledge about trauma to strengthen approaches to homeless outreach and engagement.

Roger Fallot and David Freeman of Community Connections in Washington, DC. presented a "trauma-informed" approach to homelessness services, focusing on the particular experiences and needs of male trauma survivors.

New One-Stop Website for
Federal Grant Programs

A single, comprehensive Web site that will contain information about finding and applying for all federal grant programs has been recently unveiled, by HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson.

The Web site, Grants.gov, makes it easier for organizations to learn about and apply for federal grants. The web site now has information about more than 800 available grant programs involving all 26 federal grant-making agencies. and includes a "Find Grant Opportunities" feature to help applicants find potential funding opportunities.

The site also contains an "Apply for Grants" feature that greatly simplifies the application process by allowing applicants to download, complete and submit applications for specific grant opportunities from any federal grant-making agency.

Grants.gov is a collaborative effort involving HHS and the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Education, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Justice, Labor and Transportation, as well as the National Science Foundation.
