Today's
NCIS
The threat landscape facing American military
forces worldwide continues to evolve at an unprecedented rate.
The dangers are more complex, wider-ranging, and more blurred
than ever before. NCIS is now called upon more frequently
by Navy and Marine Corps commanders to respond to this growing
threat while continuing to fulfill its traditional mission.
To meet this challenge, NCIS has adopted
a far-reaching strategic plan and implemented a modernization
initiative.
Strategic Transformation Highlights:
- NCIS has gone far beyond the traditional,
reactive law enforcement model and adopted a proactive and
integrated strategy designed to emphasize force protection
and the operational readiness of the Department of the Navy.
- NCIS has realigned its own organizational
structure to parallel its Prevent Terrorism/Protect Secrets/Reduce
Crime goals, creating a new Counterterrorism Department
to complement its Counterintelligence and Criminal Investigations
disciplines.
- NCIS has created the Multiple
Threat Alert Center (MTAC) a state-of-the-art hub for
the collection, analysis, and dissemination of information
related to terrorist, criminal, and intelligence activity.
- NCIS has also repositioned its forces
in the field, shifting even more personnel to forward deployed
areas overseas and priority programs, installations, and
assets within the United States.
- Finally, NCIS has embarked upon a modernization
program, seeking especially to equip agents with enhanced
secure information and mobile communications networks.
