  • Highly Enriched Uranium: Highly Enriched Uranium (HEU) has become a significant source of nuclear fuel in this country. HEU is derived from dismantled nuclear weapons of the former Soviet Union. Recently, the Office of Nuclear Energy, U.S. Department of Energy released an on-line report on HEU.
  • Nuclear Fuel: In December 1997, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) published 1996 data on fuel costs at electric power plants (including nuclear) in its annual report on Financial Statistics of Investor Owned Utilities. A more recent report, EIA Electric Power Annual, Volume II, contains aggregated data for the last five years in tables 8 through 13. Detailed data is available from each of the individual filings of FERC form 1 by power plants is available through the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.


  • Other Sites with Useful Information

    The Nationmaster web site has statistical energy summaries of various countries, but it also includes a page of very useful measures of uranium. Although it is probably mainly of interest to the technician, a lay audience might find the information on uranium’s history and use informative.
