This site provides an overview of the status of natural gas industry restructuring in each state, focusing on the residential customer class. Retail unbundling, or restructuring, is the division of those services required to supply natural gas to consumers into various components that can then be separately purchased. With complete unbundling, consumers can choose their own gas supplier and the local distribution company continues to provide local transportation and distribution services. The various unbundling programs are often called "customer choice" programs.

The site also includes the Energy Information Administration’s most recent (2002) annual price and consumption data for the residential and commercial sectors in each state. When possible, these data are compared with information obtained from the state public utility commissions or local distribution companies to provide information on the level of participation in the customer choice programs. Details of regulatory and legislative actions are also included for many states. More detailed information about the various state programs will be added at a later date.
