The Colon Cancer Family Registries* (CFRs) are collecting epidemiologic information and laboratory specimens from families at high-, intermediate-, and low- risk for colorectal cancer.The CFRs are a valuable resource for conducting important investigations on genetic and environmental susceptibility for colon cancer. More than 8,000 families are enrolled, and eligible families continue to be invited to join. Without the many at-risk individuals who participate in the Registries, it could take years for a researcher to identify enough families and collect the key information needed to begin a study. Researchers are welcome to apply to use the CFRs resources. The resources are to support investigations in genetic epidemiology, including the identification and characterization of genes and gene-gene and gene-environment interactions important to susceptibility for colorectal cancer. The CFRs also are designed to support clinical investigations, such as
on methods to improve prognosis and provide optimal treatment for patients;
social and behavioral epidemiology, such as on the choices and behaviors
of at-risk groups; and health policy and public health research. For additional information and to discuss specific applications, contact: Daniela Seminara, Ph.D., M.P.H., Clinical and Genetic Epidemiology Research Branch (CGERB). * These Registries were formerly called the Cooperative Family Registry for Colorectal Cancer Studies. |
