BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan, Sept. 21, 2004 — Two Coalition soldiers were wounded Sept. 20 when an improvised explosive device exploded in Shinkay, according to Combined Forces Command-Afghanistan.
The soldiers were out on a routine security patrol with high mobility multi-wheeled vehicles. One Humvee was destroyed. The two wounded soldiers are pending medical evacuation to Landstuhl, Germany.
Also on Sept. 20, coalition forces came under enemy fire in Zabul Province when a rocket and small arms were fired at a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter. No coalition forces were injured in the incident. There was no damage to the Blackhawk helicopter. An AH-64 Apache helicopter engaged the enemy, killing six insurgents.

In another incident, there were no injuries or damage to equipment reported after a rocket attack in the Paktika Province. Three rockets were fired at a Coalition base landing 50-100 meters outside of the compound.
In Jalalabad, there were no injuries reported from an improvised explosive device attack. The devices detonated inside of a convoy during a routine security patrol.
On Sept. 20, Coalition forces found a weapons cache in Ghazni. The cache included eight mines, 17 fuses, three 107 mm rockets, 51 mortars and six 75 mm recoilless rounds. Explosive ordinance disposal has recovered the cache and secured it. |
