DMID supports extramural research to control and prevent diseases caused by virtually all infectious agents except HIV. This includes basic biomedical research, such as studies of microbial physiology and antigenic structure; applied research, including the development of diagnostic tests; and clinical trials to evaluate experimental drugs and vaccines.
