Standards and Policies
- Standards are the legal requirements that define the minimum protections employers must provide to employees and the mechanisms used to enforce these protections.
- Hexavalent Chromium, on October 4, 2004 the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking was published in the Federal Register. The comment period ends January 3, 2005. The full Federal Register Notice may be reached by clicking here.

- Previous Meetings and Agendas
- Revised Respiratory Standard, the new fit-testing protocol, referred to as the Controlled Negative Pressure (CNP) REDON protocol, requires three different test exercises followed by two redonnings of the respirator. The three test exercises, listed in order of administration, are normal breathing, bending over, and head shaking. The final rule becomes effective September 3, 2004. - Steel Erection Final Rule: The effective dates, final, and proposed rule.
- OSHA is reopening the rulemaking record of Docket S-775, Steel Erection, to obtain comments and information on a provision that addresses the slip resistance of walking surfaces of coated structural steel members, hearing requests and comments must be submitted [postmarked or sent] by October 13, 2004. - Steel Erection Compliance Directive
- Extension of the enforcement policy for column joists. The Instruction is to amend Question and Answer #32 of OSHA Instruction CPL 02-01-034 (CPL 2-1.34) "Inspection policy and procedures for OSHA's steel erection standards for construction", issued March 22, 2002 and revokes OSHA Notice 03-03 (CPL 02) (03-03 CPL 2) "Extension of enforcement policy on column joists (CPL 2-1.34)" issued July 18, 2003. The extension is indefinite.
- OSHA Standard Interpretation and Compliance Letters are OSHA responses to specific questions relating to the Agency's interpretation of a standard.
- Directives are the documents that provide OSHA's operating procedures and assure consistency within the agency.
- Tower, Communication. OSHA's interim inspection procedures during communication tower construction activities.
- Safety and Health Information Bulletins (SHIBs) are one tool OSHA uses to inform internal staff and the public of significant occupational safety and health issues concerning hazard recognition, evaluation, and control in the workplace and at emergency response sites.
