This really is my last word as editor of Ashore
magazine. On Dec. 4, I transferred to the Strategic Vision and Marketing
Department of the Naval Safety Center as a marketing and communications
specialist. One of my duties will be to find ways to improve our method of
distributing safety information to the fleet. If you have any suggestions,
let me know. My e-mail address is still virginia.mack@navy.mil,
but I have a new extension7313.
I came to the Safety Center in 1986 as editor of Safetyline, which
was a black-and-white newsletter sent out under the cover of a memorandum.
Safetyline grew to a newsletter with a small amount of color, then
to a full-color-process magazine, and eventually evolved into Ashore.
In 1986, we printed about 12,000 copies of each issue of Safetyline.
Now we print 30,000 copies of each issue of Ashore.
I wish I could take complete credit for Ashores birth and
growth, but I cant. The people who have made this magazine a useful
tool in their safety programs are its readers, contributing authors and
supporters. You are one of those people. Without your contributions,
input, suggestions, and encouragement, this magazine wouldnt be
published on the scale it is today.
Starting with the next issue, Ken Testorff, who was the Fathom
editor at the Safety Center since 1989, will be the editor of Ashore.
(He says its time he went on shore duty.) You can reach Ken at SAFE-Ashore@navy.mil.
His extension is 7251. Give him a call or write him a note. He will be
glad to hear from you. |
