William Douglas Pawley was the American Ambassador to Peru in 1945. In April of 1946, Ambassador Pawley was transferred to the same post in Brazil. Mr. Pawley was a real estate broker in Florida, and interested in airplane manufacturing and establishing air lines in foreign countries before he was appointed Ambassador. William Douglas Pawley was born at Florence, South Carolina on September 7, 1896. He was the organizer of the Flying Tigers, an airline that operated mostly in China. He was later the President of the Miami Transit Company. He was a consultant to the State Department after his service in South America.
