ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER (ADHD) is one of the most common mental disorders that develop in children. The core symptoms of ADHD include an inability to sustain attention and concentration (inattention), developmentally inappropriate levels of activity (hyperactivity), distractibility, and impulsivity. Children with ADHD have impaired functioning in multiple settings including home, school, and in relationships with peers. If untreated, the disorder can have long-term adverse effects into adolescence and adulthood. ADHD frequently co-occurs with other problems, such as depression and anxiety disorders, conduct disorder, drug abuse, or antisocial behavior.
