The data from NIMH-supported clinical trials are an important scientific resource. It is the view of NIMH that their full value can only be realized if they are made available, under appropriate terms and conditions, in a timely manner to the largest possible number of qualified investigators. It is also the view of NIMH that the confidentiality and privacy of study participants must be protected.
NIMH follows through on these commitments by requiring all investigators seeking access to data from NIMH-supported trials to execute and submit with their requests the appropriate standard Distribution Agreement pertaining to the trial. In addition, all data sets released have been stripped of any variables that might violate the privacy of any participant. Thus, the data sets distributed by NIMH are referred to as "limited access data sets" because certain variables may have been omitted (e.g., birth date, although age would be available) and others modified (e.g., date of assessment, name of site) in preparation for public release.
