New Embassy Telephone Numbers

Secretary Powell's Remarks En Route to Rio

U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell made some remarks to the press en route to Brazil for meetings with government officials, business leaders, and other Brazilians. His remarks included topics such as the U.S.-Brazilian bilateral relations; the situation in Haiti and what the U.S. Government is doing to cooperate with the Haitians; the hurricane season and U.S. aid to Grenada, Brazil's enriching of Uranium, etc. (Full Text)


Elections 2004: Voting Information for residents abroad

Americans who reside abroad are usually eligible to vote by absentee ballot in all federal elections and may also be eligible to vote in many state and local U.S. elections. If you would like to register to vote, or if you are registered and would like to apply for an absentee ballot, please stop by the consular section of the US Embassy in La Paz (window 8, Monday to Friday from 8:45 to 12:00pm) or the consular agencies in Santa Cruz and Cochabamba (9:00am-12:00pm). Information on state voting requirements and primaries is also available at www.fvap.gov.

  • First presidential debate: Thursday, September 30
  • Vice-presidential debate: Tuesday, October 5
  • Second presidential debate: Friday, October 8
  • Third presidential debate: Wednesday, October 13

All debates will begin at 9 pm E.T., and will be carried by international media outlets


Newly Redesigned U.S. $50 Notes To Be Issued By the U.S. Government Beginning Today

Local Banks to Begin Distributing the Note over the Next Several Weeks
La Paz, Bolivia - September 28, 2004 - The newly redesigned U.S. $50 note will soon be showing up in wallets across Bolivia. Today marks the day the U.S. Federal Reserve System issues the new note and begins distributing it through the international banking system into the hands of consumers around the world and in Bolivia.
