Ceremony Held for Fish Passage Projects in Maine
A newly constructed fish passage on the Sebasticook River in Newport, Maine was
the site of a dedication ceremony recognizing the completion of three fish
passage projects.

Soils Color Artist's Work
Instead of using oils or watercolors, Jan Lang, with the Natural Resources
Conservation Service in Lincoln, Nebraska, paints with soils collected from
across the Nation. Lang has finished 22 canvases since she began using
soil paints more than a year ago.

Volunteer Partnership Makes Hay Lake a Better Place for All to Enjoy
They came from all walks of life on a recent early and crisp fall morning in
Flagstaff. TThey met on this refreshing morning for one thing: to help with
environmental issues by transplanting 100 vegetative plugs to Tremaine Lake
which is located near Hay Lake about 60 miles southeast of Flagstaff in the
Coconino National Forest.

Responding to keen interest from farmers and ranchers in developing new

Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN) recently released a user-friendly
publication to help producers develop goal-oriented business plans for farms and
rural businesses.

Changes to WEBCAAF - Effective 10/21/03
Beginning October 21, 2003, all users attempting to access a WebCAAF-protected
application the first time will be prompted to add 3 items to his/her WebCAAF
profile. These three items will be used for future security measures and users
will only need to add these one time.

Saving Initiative
Chief Knight approved 25 recommendations that will result in significant
improvements in NRCS operations. These improvements are the result of the
recommendations developed from 1,363 suggestions submitted last June by
employees in field, area, and State offices through the online suggestion
system.

Potential Carbon
Sequestration on U.S. Agricultural Soils
The NRCS Resource Assessment Division is partnering with Texas A&M University
researchers to analyze the potential of U.S. agricultural soils to sequester
carbon. The effort is an activity of the Consortium for Agricultural Soils
Mitigation of Greenhouse Gases.
