Research Statement

A major laboratory focus involves understanding normal and abnormal human erythropoiesis at the molecular level. For this purpose, we have developed a flow cytometric-based approach to isolate and culture erythropoietin responsive progenitor cells from human blood. Molecular and cell biology correlates are being performed by functional genomic analyses. Related studies include the development of genetic and pharmaceutical therapies for diseases involving erythroid cells.
