The Office of the Regional Chief Administrative Law Judge in Chicago, Illinois oversees all hearing office operations in the six state area comprised of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

The Office of Hearings and Appeals is responsible for holding hearings and issuing decisions as part of the Social Security Administration's appeals process. Most of our cases involve disability benefits under the Social Security Disability Insurance program (Title II) and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program (Title XVI). We process a small number of cases dealing with Retirement and Survivors benefits (Title II), Medicare (Title XVIII), and non-disability claims under SSI (Title XVI).

Over one hundred Administrative Law Judges, supported by nearly one thousand professional employees, conduct hearings at the nineteen hearing offices in the region and numerous remote sites. Last year, we issued over 70,000 disability and Medicare decisions.
