Department
Announces Disaster Assistance for California Wildfire
Victims
Secretary Martinez on Tuesday announced he would
speed federal disaster assistance to four California
counties ravaged by wildfires and provide support
to homeowners and low-income renters. The Department's
actions were taken in response to the President's
decision on Monday to declare Los Angeles, San Bernardino,
San Diego and Ventura counties as federal disaster
areas. The declaration covers damage to private
and public property from wildfires fueled by dry
conditions and shifting Santa Ana winds.

Disaster
Recovery represents a critical area that impacts all Americans.
HUD
can provide critical housing and community development resources
to aid disaster recovery. HUD’s Disaster Recovery Teams are located
in offices throughout the country.
HUD
has also joined forces with other Federal and state agencies to
aid in the implementation of disaster recovery assistance. Under
the Federal Response Plan the Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Small
Business Administration (SBA) offer initial recovery assistance.
