Church Road Fire Protection District  -
New Firehouse Project

Church Road Fire Protection District ground breaking.

City of Centreville, St. Clair County, IL
A ground breaking ceremony was held Saturday, January 24, 2004 at the site for the new fire station for the Church Road Fire Protection District in Centreville.  Over 60 people were present, including over 40 firefighters from various fire departments, to celebrate the event.  It was a proud moment for the local firefighters, board, the Mayor of Centreville and the area residents.

The Church Road Fire Protection District represents portions of the City of Centreville and Centreville Township (over 3000 people in their service area).  The City of Centreville is located near East St. Louis and is a lower income community with high unemployment and a declining population.  The Church Road FPD was established in 1963.  They work with a very meager operating budget. The FPD was housed in a forty year old building which has reached the end of its useful life.  The building was in poor condition with severe water damage to the roof.  The building was also in a poor location—the corner of their service area, off of a dirt road.

Through the persistence of their Fire Chief Dwayne Carpenter, the FPD and their board were able to put together multiple sources of funding and donations; including school, city, township, county, state and federal assistance, in which to start the construction of a new 64’x64’ firehouse.  The project construction was completed in July.
