The emerald ash borer has been found infesting green, black
and white ash. In the Upper Midwest, ash (genus Fraxinus) trees are
common in the urban landscape along streets, in yards and in woodlots. Green
ash dominates the urban ash resource. In forest landscapes, ash tends not to be
an abundant tree but can be locally very common. From a wood products
standpoint, white ash is the most valuable species. Black ash is common in
forested wetlands.
This page provides information on ash identification and
range maps of our native ash species. It also
provides background information on the ash resource in urban areas versus more
rural forested areas. |
