Alvarez-Boyd Appointed Deputy Comptroller For Community 
Affairs


WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency 
(OCC) today announced that Anna Alvarez-Boyd has been appointed 
Deputy Comptroller for Community Affairs, effective July 3, 2000.  
Ms. Alvarez Boyd has been acting in this capacity since May, 
succeeding Jeanne K. Engel. 

As Deputy Comptroller, Ms. Alvarez-Boyd oversees the agency’s 
Community Affairs programs, and is in charge of the Community 
Development, Community Reinvestment and Development, Community 
Relations, and Minority and Urban Affairs Divisions at the OCC.  
She reports to First Senior Deputy Comptroller and Chief Counsel 
Julie L. Williams.

Anna is well respected within the OCC, the national banking 
industry and among community development leaders, said Ms. 
Williams.  She has a solid background and will provide strong 
leadership for the OCC’s community affairs activities.

Ms. Alvarez-Boyd joined the agency in 1995 as a Community 
Reinvestment and Development (CRD) Specialist, operating in the 
Western District, and became CRD manager in 1997.   As CRD 
manager, Ms. Alvarez-Boyd supervised the OCC’s staff of CRD 
specialists, who provide technical assistance to examiners, 
bankers and their community partners on community development 
issues. 

Prior to coming to the OCC, Ms. Alvarez-Boyd was Director of 
Advocacy for Consumer Action, a California-based consumer 
education and advocacy organization.  She is a graduate of San 
Francisco State University.




The OCC charters, regulates and examines approximately 2,400 national banks and 
58 federal branches of foreign banks in the U.S., accounting for more than 57 
percent of the nation’s banking assets. Its mission is to ensure a safe and 
sound and competitive national banking system that supports the citizens, 
communities and economy of the United States.
