HUD Acts to Help American Families Following Terrorist Attacks

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has taken an active role in helping our nation recover following the events of September 11, 2001. This includes quick action to protect families of the victims - including those whose economic livelihoods were directly affected - from losing their homes.

 -   HUD salutes the sacrifices of those fighting to free Iraq
 -   Bush Administration announces $350 million to help Lower Manhattan businesses
 -   Martinez announces changes to help insurer community support men and women in uniform
 -   Martinez announces HUD will not require terrorism insurance on FHA-insured multifamily loans
 -   Martinez delivers funds to support residents, rebuilding of Lower Manhattan
 -   Secretaries Martinez and Rumsfeld announce mortgage rate cut for recalled Guardsmen and Reservists
 -   Martinez calls for housing industry to stand united in wake of attacks
 -   HUD gives $15 million in emergency funding to NYC housing agencies affected by terrorist attacks
 -   HUD announces $700 million in Relief for New York's Recovery - Part of Administration's $2.8 billion Disaster Plan

The Department has put together helpful Questions and Answers for both families and mortgage lenders. The relief options for Federal Housing Administration (FHA) mortgage loans described in the following links refer to any FHA-insured homeowner affected by the events of September 11.

In addition, Secretary Martinez has worked with Defense Secretary Rumsfeld to invoke The Soldiers' and Sailors' Relief Act of 1940, which provides mortgage relief for all reservists and National Guard members called to active duty, whether or not their mortgage is insured by FHA.
