Notes: This position is an Indefinite Appointment in the Excepted Service under Title 42. Salary commensurate with experience. Candidate must be ARRT or CNMT registered. No PET experience necessary.

Description of Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is located in the Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Department, which supports clinical care and clinical research through the in vivo diagnostic use of radiopharmaceuticals to evaluate diseases that are studied in the Clinical Center, NIH. The incumbent will perform advanced computer-based PET procedures on Clinical Center patients and large experimental animals. These procedures include computer data acquisition and processing of brain and body PET scans, using a wide variety of radiopharmaceuticals, image reconstruction and display, scanner calibration, region of interest analysis, computer data transfer and archiving, operation of ancillary PET laboratory equipment, ordering and maintaining the necessary supplies for clinical use, and teaching standard techniques of operation to other technologists.

Basic Qualification Requirements:
Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially they must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as a radiographers in their field. The following meet the above requirements:

(1) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.
(2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency.

This position may be designated as an emergency position. The selected candidate for this position may be required to be available; ready, willing, and able to report for duty under all circumstances e.g., inclement weather, government closings and holidays, lapse in appropriations, non-emergency and emergency situations for operation 24 hours a day and 365 days per year coverage.
