What is the Federal Citizen Information Center?

The Federal Citizen Information Center (FCIC) was established in February 2000 as the result of a merger of the Citizen Information Center (CIC) and the Federal Information Center (FIC). The merger combined the CIC web site (www.pueblo.gsa.gov), the Consumer Information Catalog, and the Pueblo publication distribution program with the FIC nationwide toll-free telephone assistance center. The new FCIC now serves as a trusted, one-stop source for answers to questions about Federal agencies, programs and services. The specially trained staff can answer questions in English and Spanish about all aspects of the Federal government or direct callers to an appropriate contact. The public can access the call center by calling toll-free 1 (800) 688-9889 (TTY 800-326-2996) between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. EDT.

FCIC maintains close ties with more than 100 different federal offices, agencies and departments, as well as many consumer and trade organizations. Call the FCIC media staff at (202) 501-1794 and we can help you find the right contacts at these agencies and organizations quickly.

What is the Consumer Action Handbook and how do I get a copy?

The Handbook, one of the most popular books published by the federal government, is an easy-to-read guide offering pre-purchase information and ways to resolve marketplace problems. There are thousands of names, addresses, telephone numbers and electronic addresses of corporations, trade groups, state and local consumer protection offices and federal agencies. It is available in .pdf, .htm, and ASCII text formats. It's a large publication so we have it available in sections to make access more convenient.

For a printed copy, order online (look in the And more category). You can also call 1-888-8 PUEBLO (1-888-878-3256), or send your name and address to Handbook, Pueblo, Colorado 81009.
