  Air Force Survey Program  

An Air Force survey is a set of attitude/opinion questions, regardless of format (i.e., paper & pencil questionnaire, web-based survey, telephone interview, etc.), administered to Air Force active duty, guard or reserve member, family member or retiree at more than one location or addressing an Air Force level program or policy.   

  Air Force Survey Approval Process
   
 Send your proposed survey instrument (snail mail, e-mail or FAX) to the Air Force Surveys Section surveybr@randolph.af.mil with the following information:
 
Right Arrow Graphic Identify your Air Force sponsor for the research and how you and that organization/agency will use the survey results.
Right Arrow Graphic State the purpose and justification for the proposed research.
Right Arrow Graphic Identify your survey population, e.g., pilots, nurses, etc., and the proposed sample size.
Right Arrow Graphic Describe how the data will be collected, e.g., paper/pencil survey, telephone interview, web survey, etc.
Right Arrow Graphic Specify preferred data collection period and how often people will be surveyed.

  Student Research for Academic Requirements
   
In addition to the rules stated above you must also meet the following:
   
Right Arrow Graphic Identify an Air Force need for the survey data beyond your need to fulfill an academic requirement.
Right Arrow Graphic Keep your sample size small.
Right Arrow Graphic Your proposed survey also cannot duplicate surveys already done at the Air Force level, e.g., retention, quality of life surveys, etc.
   
Right Arrow Graphic Our recommendation is to survey people within your own organization...with your commander’s approval, of course...and make it a subject over which your commander has control. Then, you don’t even need our approval (Ref AFI 36-2601AFI 36-2601, para 3.8).
