Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Do you have all collective bargaining agreements negotiated in the United States?

No. We only collect contracts that cover 1,000 or more workers, and do not collect those for the airlines and railroad industries; these are collected by the
National Mediation Board. Telephone: (202) 692-5046.

2. How many agreements are in the file for each bargaining unit?

That varies. Our aim is to keep only those that cover the last 10 years. However, with newer bargaining units, we may have less than 10 years.

3. Why do you collect these agreements?

The Labor-Management Relations Act of 1947, Section 211 (a), specifies that BLS will maintain a file of agreements "(f)or the guidance and information of interested representatives of employers, employees, and the general public . . . ."
