The seven major projects above were funded through the initiative "Mathematical Sciences and Their Applications Throughout the Curriculum," an initiative within DUE's Course and Curriculum Development (CCD) program in fiscal years 1994-1997. The purpose of the initiative was to promote broad and significant improvements in undergraduate education that would lead to increased student appreciation of and ability to use mathematics. Comprehensive projects were sought which would serve as national models for improving student understanding in the mathematical sciences, integrating mathematics into other disciplines, and improving instruction in the mathematical sciences by incorporating other disciplinary perspectives.
