USAID partner RTI completed an $18,000 renovation of the administrative offices that serve eleven clinics, including El Tahril el Aam (General Liberation Hospital). USAID partner Save the Children is working with community leaders to identify projects both large and small that will benefit the local community, including the rehabilitation of the Shatt Al-Arab Kindergarten in Basra, Iraq. The Ibn Al-Qiff Spinal Cord Injury Hospital 15 KM northeast of Baghdad was severely damaged when the adjacent UN Headquarters was destroyed in a bomb in August 2003. USAID provides grants to the Ibn Al-Qiff Spinal Cord Injury Hospital Loaders remove accumulaed silt from a section of 1 of 2 storage reservoirs in the Sweet Water Canal project that supplies all the fresh water to the city of Basrah and environs. The Baghdad International Airport (formerly Saddam International Airport) has been refurbished and repaired as part of a $17.5 million contract from USAID to SkyLink to rebuild Iraqi airports in Baghdad, Basr and Mosul. Kirkuk, Iraq, September 2003 - The Kirkuk Central Fire Station was was looted of most of its contents; windows and doors were broken; wiring pulled out, the back-up generator was destroyed; most of the building was damaged and equipment was destroyed or stolen.
