Opportunities to work with and/or at NIST

NIST has several opportunities for collaboration and employment. These typically fall several categories:

Post Doctoral Positions -- These NIST positions are offered competitively through the National Research Council (NRC). Within microscopy, microanalysis, atmospheric chemistry, and surface analysis research areas we have many possible openings described at the NRC web sites if you follow this link.

Student Positions -- These NIST position are typically summer positions offered to undergraduate and graduate students.

NIST/NSF cooperative research -- for faculty and graduate students to perform research at NIST in an area that is of interest to both NIST and NSF.

Guest Researchers -- Our division on occasion makes its facilities available for limited periods of time to a domestic (U.S. citizen) guest researcher to collaborate with NIST on research and development projects of mutual interest or to transfer NIST "know-how," methodologies, procedures, and best practices. Foreign researchers may also inquire about such arrangements.

Small Business Innovative Research Grants -- NIST also participates in the SBIR program. Every year a program solicitation document is published containing a list of R&D topics. Applicants can choose from the research topics identified in the solicitation and submit a proposal for any topic in which they feel qualified. Proposals must adhere to the guidelines provided in the solicitation; proposals that do not comply will not be considered. Unsolicited proposals are not accepted. Proposals are due by mid-January.
