AAPI Service Project Releases Multi-Lingual Information, How-To Planning Guides, Other Resources On "Diabetes and CAD In South Asians"
The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) National Service Project
has available "Diabetes and Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) in South Asians" on
its website www.aapimsr.org.
Several studies in recent years have shown that South Asians living in the West have a
higher mortality and morbidity from Diabetes and Heart Disease than the general population.
The goal of this project is three-fold:
- Promote awareness of screening and to disseminate multi-lingual brochures developed
specifically for South Asians
- Educate healthcare professionals
- Promote research opportunities available. In particular, research that is funded by
AAPI's Diabetes In Asians (DIA) Grant.
AAPI has multi-lingual pamphlets, sample slide presentations, and a step-by-step guide
for organizing related health fairs. The information is designed to encourage professionals
to connect with local community organizations to help them get involved in the Spring of
2004 through health fairs, lunch-time lectures, distributing materials at a local community
event or even passing out materials at meetings.
Materials, fact sheets on diabetes and coronary artery disease and other multi-lingual
information is available at www.aapimsr.org/Diabetes/index.htm.
