Ira SenGupta Named Executive Director Of Cross Cultural Health Care Program

The Board of Directors of the Cross Cultural Health Care Program (CCHCP) announced the appointment of Ira SenGupta as Executive Director. Ms. SenGupta will take over the leadership of the program as it begins a strategic planning process that is intended to expand the range of services CCHCP offers to bridge the gaps in understanding that separate immigrant and refugee communities from the American Health Care system.

Founded twelve years ago as a program of Pacific Medical Center (PacMed), CCHCP provides training for medical interpreters and cultural competency training for health care providers and administrators.

SenGupta has been CCHCPÕs Cultural Competency Training Program Manager for the past 10 years. She had developed and conducted over 2600 hours of trainings in cross cultural issues for health care providers and social services in the past year alone. Ms. SenGupta has also conducted cultural competency assessments of institutions and has facilitated and managed major cultural competency initiatives, coalitions, and training programs.

"e;Cultural and linguistic competency in health care is no longer an issue confined only to hospitals in major cities with large immigrant populations, or to community clinics whose mission is to serve the under-serve,"e; said SenGupta. "e;These issues are relevant to any and all health care institutions who wish to compete in the market place by providing the highest quality care and services to an increasingly diverse American population.Ó
