National Capital Area Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Invites Participants For Light The Night Walk - Oct. 2004

The National Capital Area Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is sponsoring in October, "Light The Night Walk," to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer, and to raise money for the fight against cancer.

The walk, which travels down Pennsylvania Avenue, in Washington, D.C., is made up of neighbors, families, friends, community organizations and local businesses, with cancer patients and survivors carry illuminated white balloons as lights of hope. Other walkers carry red balloons.

The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is to cure blood cancers and to improve the lives of patients and their families. Seventy-five percent of funds raised through local Light The Night Walks is used to directly support the Society's mission.

In October 2004, there will be four walks occurring in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Washington, D.C., the largest Walk site, will take place Thursday, October 7th. Saturday evening walks will be held in Reston, VA on October 2nd, South Riding, VA on October 9th and Montgomery County, MD on October 16th. We are anticipating more than 2,000 walkers in D.C. alone, and over 6,000 participants overall.
