August 6 Date Set for Academic Symposium fn Violence Prevention as a Public Health Strategy for Reducing Health Care Costs Associated With Medicaid

The Howard University School of Social Work, E. Franklin Frazier Center for Social Work Research will conduct a symposium on August 6, 2004 to announce the results of a research study to ascertain the potential of applying violence prevention as a public health strategy towards reducing health care costs associated with Medicaid expenditures on gun violence-related injuries.

Increasingly, urban youth violence has been of significant concern with wide ranging, public health and socio-economic implications. This one-of-a-kind symposium is designed to create an opportunity for community stakeholders, researchers, policy makers, and health professionals to engage in meaningful dialogue about this significant issue.

Community partners from New York, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. will also be on hand to share perspectives.

Registration and meals are free. To register, please e-mail m_charles@howard.edu or call 202.806.8107/8213. Due to limited seating early registration is encouraged.
