Energy Industry Champions Honored by Minerals Management Service
From royalty reporting to decommissioning
procedures and from gas sales to worker safety, the Minerals
Management Service will honor energy industry professionals on April
27 at its annual awards celebration in Houston.
Winners of the MMS Corporate Leadership Award
work in many capacities in the energy industry and win the award for
performing an act or service that enhances the MMS mission of securing
ocean energy and economic value for America.
Winners are nominated by MMS employees who have
first-hand knowledge of the recipients’ exemplary on-the-job
performance. The award honors individuals in the energy industry who
excel in their work, care about the environment and meet their fiscal
responsibilities.
“The winners of the Corporate Leadership Awards
come from many aspects of the energy workplace, from providing
excellence in safe and environmentally sound operations to ensuring
timely and accurate accounting,” said MMS Director Johnnie Burton.
“When an individual employs such a high level of
professionalism, the standard is raised for everyone. MMS is honored
to present this award for corporate excellence to no less than 30
energy industry champions this year.”

Exemplary leadership,
planning and contributions that have been instrumental in
developing effective field operations policies and for assisting
industry in obtaining and maintaining compliance with MMS

representation, contributing key insights to Federal oil and gas
valuation workshops and for unwavering professionalism and

The Minerals Management Service is the Federal
agency in the U.S. Department of the Interior that manages the
nation’s oil, natural gas, and other mineral resources on the Outer
Continental Shelf in Federal offshore waters. MMS also collects,
accounts for and disburses mineral revenues from Federal and American
Indian lands. MMS disbursed more than $8 billion in 2003 and
more than $135 billion since the agency was created in 1982. Nearly $1
billion from those revenues go into the Land and Water Conservation
Fund annually for the acquisition and development of state and Federal
park and recreation lands.
