Message to Reviewers

NSF has launched an experimental program, FastLane, using advanced technology to facilitate the exchange of information and transactions between NSF and the research community. This message provides important information about FastLane Proposal Review. If you have been asked to review a proposal for NSF, you may be able to use the FastLane Proposal Review to submit your review.

Reviewer Confidentiality
In order to assure confidentiality, NSF has assigned a six character alpha-numeric Personal Identification Number (PIN) to each proposal-reviewer combination. Your assigned PIN appears in the lower right box of the Proposal Evaluation Form (NSF Form 1), below your name and address. Please make certain to safeguard the PIN to maintain confidentiality of the proposal review. If your Proposal Evaluation Form does not have a PIN printed in the lower right box, the program that solicited your review is not participating in FastLane Proposal Review.

How to Access FastLane Electronic Proposal Review
The FastLane Proposal Review is available from the FastLane home page on the World Wide Web (WWW). You can access the FastLane home page through the NSF home page (www.nsf.gov). Upon connecting to FastLane, click on the Proposal Review button, then type the seven digit proposal number, your last name, and your assigned PIN. A valid combination will display the review template. Please note that FastLane will only let you submit one review per assigned proposal.

Submitting a FastLane Review
Type an X next to your summary rating for the proposal. You may use a separate word processor for the text of your review and then copy & paste it into the text box. When you are ready to submit your review, scroll to the bottom of the page. If you would like to receive an email copy of your submitted review, please provide your full email address. When you click on the Submit button, your review will be submitted to NSF and forwarded to the cognizant program officer.
