 Since 1979, the Combat Studies Institute has regularly published a wide array of official Research Studies, Reports, Surveys, and Bibliographies of abiding interest to the professional military officer and scholar.   In 1999, the Combat Studies Institute, the Combined Arms Research Library and the United States Disciplinary Barracks initiated a project to make CSI publications available on the Internet. 

The publications listed are a complete listing of Combat Studies Institute and CGSC press publications of the past 20 years.  The ones currently available are hot linked to the documents.  The documents are in two formats, pdf or html.  

If you do not have a viewer for the pdf documents click here* to download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. Publications not yet available online are free to active duty service members, retirees, and Department of Defense civilians only. All others please contact your regional government printing office outlet and order the Combat Studies Institute publications from them.

As of 1 October 2002, new publications in PDF format that are over 4.5 MB will be divided into smaller files to facilitate downloading.  

The older PDF files will be divided into smaller files as time allows.  These PDF files are quite large and may take some time to load. ** If you have problems downloading these files please contact the CARL webmaster. **

LEAVENWORTH PAPERS:

Leavenworth Papers represent monograph-length studies containing original research that employs a combination of primary and secondary sources, with emphasis on the former. Leavenworth Papers provide comprehensive and detailed treatment of a subject and include a significant degree of analysis.

Staff rides and battlefield tours provide important insights into military operations, concepts of leadership, and conditions at the time of battle, as well as vignettes and topics of discussion. They also provide military personnel and civilians with suggestions on setting up and conducting a staff ride to the designated battlefield.
