OI
conducts and coordinates investigative activity related to fraud, waste,
abuse, and mismanagement of SSA programs and operations, in accordance
with the Quality Standards for Investigations published by the President's
Council on Integrity and Efficiency; the SSA OIG Special Agent Handbook;
and other applicable laws, policies, and regulations. These activities
include wrongdoing by applicants, beneficiaries, contractors, physicians,
interpreters, representative payees, third parties, and SSA employees.
OI also conducts joint investigations with other Federal, State and local
law enforcement agencies.
