SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Seven San Diego-based amphibious warships have received orders to deploy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The ships will depart San Diego Jan. 17.

Nearly 10,000 local Sailors and Marines from San Diego Naval Base and Camp Pendleton will be deploying to the North Arabian Gulf region.

The deploying ships are USS Boxer (LHD 4), USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), USS Cleveland (LPD 7), USS Dubuque (LPD 8), USS Anchorage (LSD 36), USS Comstock (LSD 45) and USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52).

During the transit, the ships will be under the command of Capt. Kenny Golden, Commander, Amphibious Squadron 1. Captain Golden will be embarked aboard Boxer.
