Program Responsibilities:
Xiaodong Zhang started his NSF program director position as an IPA on September 1, 2001. His home institution is the College of William and Mary, where he is a professor of Computer Science. William and Mary is the second oldest U.S. university actively involving research activities in many Ph.D. programs, although its chartered name of "College" in 1693 has never been changed to "University".
Xiaodong Zhang's research interests include high performance computing and systems, distributed systems and computer architecture. He is leading a research group working on various research projects. He is an associate editor of IEEE Micro, and was on the Editorial Board of IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems from 1998 to 2002. He was the Chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Supercomputing Applications from 1996 to 1999.
Xiaodong Zhang received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Beijing Polytechnic University, China, in 1982, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1985 and 1989, respectively.
