HEIDELBERG, Germany — Appointments at U.S. Army Medical Department Activity’s hospital (USAMH) in Heidelberg, many clinics are temporarily limited to active duty service members.  According to Colonel Seipp, Commander, USAMH, “Appointment availability changes are largely due to our commitment to meet the medical needs of Active Duty service members returning from Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.  We are also experiencing temporary shortages in some clinics due to the routine summer military rotations,” Seipp said.  “Fortunately, we have a very robust host nation medical system available to augment medical care for our other beneficiaries.  We are committed to managing the health care of all of our beneficiaries and are confident in the quality of care provided by our host nation counterparts.  Patients who are referred outside the military facility will receive the same quality care that is provided at the hospital."

Currently the following clinics are open to active duty only on most days:  Ambulatory Care, Dermatology, Family Practice, Optometry, Orthopedics and Physical Therapy.   Active duty family members should call central appointments after 0900 each morning to see if there are appointments available.   Limited outpatient CHAMPUS appointments are available to CHAMPUS eligible patients only.  The OB/GYN and Pediatric clinics continue to see routine appointments.

In the mean time, patients should continue to contact central appointments at 06221-17-2622 first to see what appointments the hospital has available.  Bear in mind that Active Duty patients have priority, followed by active duty family members, retirees and their dependents and DOD civilians and their dependents. If appointments are not available, patients will be referred to the TRICARE Service Center, 06221-17-3087/3088, to schedule an appointment with a host nation preferred provider.
