Libby, Montana

Beginning July 30, ATSDR began its second round of FREE asbestos-related medical testing for current and former residents of Libby, Montana, who were in the area for 6 months or more before December 31, 1990. This round of testing is offered to those who were unable to participate in the first round of testing last year (July-November, 2000). Testing will continue through early September. To schedule an appointment, call the National Opinion Research Center (NORC), toll free, at 1 (800) 439-8308.

Mortality from asbestosis in the Libby, Montana, population during 1979-1998 was 60 times that of the United States, according to recent findings released by ATSDR. For more on asbestos, see the following:
